Weekly note 27.11.17

Year 4 Weekly Update for week beginning 27/11/17

We’ve had another brilliant week and enjoyed our final Epic Friday for this term.  A big thank you to all our helpers and we welcome any feedback you have.

This week is another busy week:

Monday 27th November is our Tudor day.  Children should come to school in their Tudor costumes for the day.  We look forward to seeing lots of you at 2pm in the school hall, any last minute helpers for the morning activities would be greatly appreciated.

Numeracy: Children will be taking part in some maths assessments in the first part of the week and continuing with our work on fractions. Please find a link to an interactive fraction wall to help the children practice.

http://www.visnos.com/demos/fraction-wall

Literacy: We will be focusing on setting descriptions based in the Tudor times.  Any reading of fictional stories based in the Tudor times would support this unit.

Science:  We will be starting an exciting new unit.  More details will follow next week.

DT: Our DT project will begin soon and we will be making soft toys. In the last couple of weeks of the term we will be busy sewing and if there are any parents/grandparents out there willing to give us a hand it would be much appreciated. Please let the class teacher know if you can help at all during the afternoons.

Details of the Christmas Party will be sent home soon. Please keep an eye out for the letter. Can we please also take this opportunity to remind you about the Christmas Fayre next week on Thursday 7th December 2-4pm.

Many thanks,

Year 4 team

Wow!  What a week!  We were extremely lucky to have an art expert who came to show us a Tudor portrait today.

We all learnt a lot about the painting and are hoping to put this knowledge into our own Tudor portraits next week.

We also started to look at a very famous Tudor portrait of Elizabeth I called the Armada Portrait.

Miss Golland’s class assembly

Our class assembly is on the 20th November. Below are the lyrics for the song we will be singing  and the Youtube link should take you to the music we will be singing to. Please practise at home, scripts will also be coming home this week. Thank you!

Song lyrics:

Divorced, beheaded and died

Divorced, beheaded, survived

I’m Henry VIII, I had six sorry wives

Some might say I ruined their lives

Catherine of Aragon was one

She failed to give me a son

I had to ask her for a divorce

That broke up her heart of course

Young Anne Boleyn, she was two

Had a daughter, the best she could do

I said she flirted with some other man

And off with the chop went dear Anne

Lovely Jane Seymour was three

The love of a lifetime for me

She gave me a son

Little Prince Ed

Then poor old Jane went and dropped dead

Divorced, beheaded and died

Divorced, beheaded, survived

I’m Henry VIII, I had six sorry wives

Some might say I ruined their lives

Anne of Cleves came at four

I fell for the portrait I saw

Then laid eyes on her face and cried “she’s a horse!”

I must have another divorce

Catherine Howard was five

A child of 19, so alive

She flirted with others, no way to behave

The axe sent young Cath to her grave

Katherine Parr she was last

By then all my best days were past

I lay on my death bed age just 55

Lucky Katherine the last stayed alive

I mean how unfair

Divorced, beheaded and died

Divorced, beheaded, survived

I’m Henry VIII, I had six sorry wives

You could say I ruined their lives

Miss Green’s Class Assembly Song

Our class assembly is a week on Monday (13th November). Below are the lyrics for the song we will be singing  and the Youtube link should take you to the music we will be singing to. Please practise at home, as well as any lines you have in the script.

Play with Me

Why are you frowning at me, it won’t hurt to smile.

I just asked to play your game awhile,

When you’re older I know you’ll understand.

We can’t say you can’t play

So take my hand.

Oh won’t you play with me,

Come fo-llow my lead.

Feeling left out is not what we need,

So come on play with me.

Why am I so emotional?

Being left out games, hurts my soul.

Get so knocked down, brush off the dirt.

You could play with me so it doesn’t hurt.

Oh won’t you play with me,

Come fo-llow my lead.

Feeling left out is not what we need,

So come on play with me.

Oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh ohhh,

Oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh ohhh,

Oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh ohhh,

Oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh ohhh,

Why won’t you play with me,

Come fo-llow my lead.

Feeling left out is not what we need,

So come on play with me.

Oh won’t you play with me,

Come fo-llow my lead.

Feeling left out is not what we need,

So come on play with me.
