Weekly update 19.12.16

Year 4 Weekly Update for week beginning 19/12/16

This will be our last weekly update of the term. We would just like to say what a fabulous term we have had and have thoroughly enjoyed teaching this year group. Highlights have been the Battle of Bosworth (re-enacted), trip to Castle Cornet, Tudor day, our DT project on making soft toys, a wonderful Christmas party and much much more! Thank-you for all your support, it really does make a difference and we appreciate it.

A few reminders for this very short week:-

Homework: there will be no homework over the holiday period. The children deserve a well-earned rest. Please keep up the reading, learning of times tables and mathletics as much as possible though.

Last day: school will finish on Tuesday 20th at 1pm. A packed lunch is not needed but children can bring in a snack for break time. Games can also be brought in for the children play on the last day.

We will be sending out more details about next term when we return in January.

Finally, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

Thanks.

Year 4 Weekly Update for week beginning 12/12/16

sewingThe children have loved having a go at some sewing this week and have been working hard making their own toy and showing some great perseverance-threading a needle isn’t as easy as it looks! Here’s what’s coming up this week:-

Numeracy: We will be working on problem solving and Christmas data handling.

Literacy: We will be writing our own historical stories linked to the homework sent today.

DT: We are still very keen to have any willing volunteers to help thread needles and untangle sewing! Please let the class teacher know if you can help at all.  We are planning to do these lessons on Monday and Wednesday afternoon next week.

ICT:  We will be focusing on e-safety and how to be safe on-line.

christmas-partyLower Junior Christmas party: Is on Thursday (another letter about this has already been sent home).

Year 5 Christmas Service: We will be watching the Year 5 Christmas service in the church on Wednesday 14th December at 9.30.  If there are any parents who would be willing to walk to and from the church with us, we would be very grateful!  Please let your class teacher know.

Pokemon cards:  This is a really popular craze at the moment and generally the children play well with each other. However, there have been a few incidents which we have had to spend time in dealing with. Can we remind children that it is their responsibility to look after their cards and if they are worried about losing them or arguments happening then perhaps it will be best to leave them at home. We don’t want to ban them as the children are really enjoying playing with them and are learning some great social skills but we just ask that they are sensible and responsible with the choices they make.

Disco: Year 4 can strut their stuff at the Lower Junior disco on Friday 16th December 4:15-5:30pm. Tickets go on sale next week before and after school.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for your continued support
