Year 4 Weekly Update for week beginning 28/11/16

A BIG thank you for coming to Tudor Day and making it a very special day for the children. We all had a fabulous time and the children amazed us with their enthusiasm and knowledge! We are very proud of their hard work and we hope you were impressed with their creativity and enjoyment of this topic. We couldn’t have done it without our helpers. Another big thank you.

We would welcome your feedback on Tudor Day, please feel free to e-mail or comment on the blog.

Homework:  As the children have worked so hard this week towards their Tudor day, there will be no set homework this week.  Keep on practising targets, reading, spelling and going on Mathletics.

Numeracy: Finishing our unit on fractions and carrying out our termly assessment.

Literacy: We will be looking at historical stories.

Science: We will be starting an electricity topic.

Art: Observational drawing for the board.

DT: Our DT project will begin soon and we will be making soft toys. In the last couple of weeks of the term we will be busy sewing and if there are any parents/grandparents out there willing to give us a hand it would be much appreciated-even if it’s to help thread needles! Please let the class teacher know if you can help at all during the afternoons.

Details of the Christmas Party will be sent home soon. Please keep an eye out for the letter. Can we please also take this opportunity to remind you about the Christmas Fayre next week on Thursday 1st 2-4pm. Children may be picked up at 3pm as usual and can then visit the Fayre.

Thanks for your continued support-we have especially appreciated it this week!

Literacy homework 18.11.16

Literacy Homework due in Monday 21st November
In class, children have been inventing Tudor Punishments in pairs and have spent time planning.
Next week, children will be writing an information text based on their invention. Please could you go through the planning sheet with your child and encourage them to add any extra information in preparation for next week. This MUST be brought back on MONDAY.
WILF:
• Be creative with your ideas.
• Think about whether your made up Tudor punishment would’ve been accepted by King Henry.
• Does it fit with the Tudor period?
Think about the following questions:
• What does it look like?
• How does it work?
• What crime could it be used for?
• Who was it for?
• Where did the punishment take place?
• How long does the punishment last?
• Other interesting facts.
Can you add in any more VCOP to help your writing? (Vocabulary – adjectives, adverbs, powerful verbs, topic words, synonyms, Connectives – think about your challenge level, Openers – can you include a variety?, Punctuation – try and use a range)
Many thanks, Year 4 team

Weekly note 21.11.16

It’s finally arrived….
Tudor Day -this Friday 25th November.
Children will need to come dressed as a rich or poor Tudor. See blog for examples. There will be workshops for the children in the morning such as cooking, quill writing, making a pomander and much more. Thank you to those who have offered their help, if you haven’t let us know and you are able to come in for the morning to help out – please get in touch, you will really make our day!
Parents are then invited at 2:00pm to look at all the children’s work in their books and on display, there will also be some Tudor dances at 2:30pm to watch and portraits to appreciate. Parking will be on the playground.
Here’s what’s happening the rest of the week:-
Numeracy: we will be doing some problem solving and continuing with fractions.
Literacy: the children will be writing up their own inventions for Tudor crime and punishment-some are quite gruesome!

Missing coats

Good afternoon,

Unfortunately a boy has lost not one, but two of his coats after being hung up in the cloakroom. The first one was grey with blue and red stripes on the arms, the second a Helly Hansen bright blue waterproof with new pair of gloves in the pocket.

If someone has taken these home by accident (lots of people have similar coats) or sees them lying around please return to me.

Many thanks,

Miss Dyke
